Sophia Literacy Hamper Drive 2.0

On  August 8, 2020 the Rotaract Club of Georgetown, Rotary Club of Georgetown and Rotaract Club University of Guyana held a Hamper Drive entitled  the  Sophia Literacy Program Hamper Drive 2.0
The coronavirus has hit the entire world and Guyana is no exception. It has not only created a health crisis but also, an unprecedented socio-economic crisis.
As this pandemic is far from over, with its impact having lasting effects on the livelihoods of individuals and communities, it is more important now than ever that we reach out more frequently to lend a helping hand.
It is against this backdrop that the Rotaract Club of Georgetown, the Rotary Club of Georgetown, and the Rotaract Club of University of Guyana decided to join hands to reach out to the wider Sophia Community. Seventy- Five hampers were distributed to families in need with the aim of providing economic relief to these persons. The items of the hampers which include food items, toiletries, and cleaning products were collected with the help of generous sponsors as well as the members of the three clubs.
The clubs gathered at Georgetown Club at which they coordinated a socially distanced packaging of items for the hampers
It is worth mentioning that the Rotaract Club of Georgetown has a long-standing relationship with this particular community and has been reaching out to the children there through their literacy program for more than twenty years.
